Bug in retrofit routine

The retrofit routine still does not accept that two designs, differing only in component mounts, are different.

Build an LC with a normal mount gun, and an identical design with a large mount gun. You cannot upgrade any ships of the first type to the second type.

And what if you have a great design already and just want up upgrade the mounts?
In P&N, you can use Quality mounts, which don't change the size, just the strength (& cost) of the component.
Adding 40% to your armor strength is a major change, but involves only mount alterations.

Having to make two retrofits and have an extra design cluttering up the shiplist is bothersome.

I don't mind that "bug" so much. I mean, what don't you just build the ships with the best possible mount availible in the first place? You're not just building less expensive ships and retrofitting them so they're done faster are you? I consider that an exploit tatic - so either way it's no so good...

plenty of reasons. some custom mounts offer different abilities. or if using quality mounts, maybe they could not afford the premium ones to start with, and only recently gained better resource production.

Re: Bug in retrofit routine

Exactly. In my particular case, after rushbuilding 70 LCs to fend off an invasion, my colonies have finished their facilities, and I'm sitting with a combined $500,000 profit margin.
Even my BattleMoons only cost a few thousand to maintain, so I'm upgrading all my ships to A+ armor.

I have no issues with retroseries, since repair rates are fairly low in P&N. ShipYards only fix 1 to 3 components per turn, requiring dedicated repair bases. Even with a stack of Living Ships at the spaceyard, I can only retrofit one LC per turn.
My battlemoons are even more repair hungry, since that retroseries requires 3&1/2 years to build the core, plus 700 components to be repaired. Repairs take 3 years for the battlemoon alone (living ship), only slightly better at a major ShipYard.
And, I'm not even using the 3x smaller PPA yet. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

My workaround so far is to add another 0-KT Buckytube Gel Armor to all my designs. Without that 0-KT component, I'd be forced to retro through a third design, which is kinda silly.
