Military Organization

Not if there is already a thread with this topic. I was researching the units of the army and I only have doubts about the organization of small units. I speak of squads, platoons and sections. As I understand the game (and I've seen any movie) the squad is the smallest unit (6 to 12), 3 or 4 squads form a platoon, 3 or 4 platoons a company and 4 or more companies a battalion.
A section is like an army? Please get me out of ignorance:).
I go to battalion because it is the largest unit of this game but in practice may be played until regiment or brigade level.
It would be good if we could default Select large units but do not know if the goal of this game or if it is a big stumbling block for programmers. While I believe that can be assembled at the scenarios.

A 'squad' is exactly the same as a 'section'. Section is mostly used by British commonwealth nations; squad is used by the US.

You are right that sections/squads are normally about 8 to 12 men.

This game was designed and is best played at the battalion level, which is normally 3 to 6 companies (but you can play with larger forces). You can buy whole companies to quickly make a battalion.

If you don't want to build a battalion you can just choose the nation and number of purchase points and click that you want the computer to purchase your forces (under the 'Player 1' button) Then the computer will build a battalion for you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squad

In the UK and Commonwealth armies the "Squad" is an informal grouping of men involved in square-bashing drill, KP or whatever an NCO decides is required to keep idle hands busy in barracks. Hence the nickname "squaddies" that is applied to private soldiers. The "section" is the formal tactical formation of about 8-10 men grouped under command of a corporal.
(The term "multiple" seems to be applied these days to a reinforced section task grouping)

The USA uses the term "squad" for the tactical formation as well as for a bunch of troops peeling potatoes. It is usually commanded by a junior sergeant that is the equivalent of a corporal in other armies seniority terms.

In armoured units etc, the term is used for a platoon of 4 or more vehicles tactically split into 2 or more parts (sections), even if there is no formal "paper" split of an armoured platoon TO&E like there is for a rifle platoon. This usage also seems to apply on the left side of the pond. (The WW2 5 tank USA platoon would typically operate as a 3/2 split (heavy and light section) or as 1 roving command tank and 2 sections of 2)

Cheers
Andy

Thank you both. I clarified my doubts. It had some pages in Spanish that changed the terms.

Re: Military Organization

The US Army has formal sections as well, but with the different connotations from that in the British Commonwealth as noted. These were and in some cases still are formalized in many units as part of the paper organization.

Globalsecurity.org has a good overview of the US Army's unit organization structure here. It unfortunately doesn't have a very specific description of sections as different from squads.

Czech army (now):
SQUAD (družstvo) is a basic unit. In mech infantry, for example, squad is IFV, crew and dismounts.
What I'd translate as SECTION (roj) are the dismounts.
In "old" organisation (pre-WW2) squad consisted of "MG Group" and "Assault group" - giving a total of 14.
