Heat scales

Do heat and cold scales affect combat or just income/supplies?

I don't know the exact rules, but heat scales will effect fatigue in combat. The futhor away the base tempature is from your nations preferred temperature scale, the more they get fatigued.

Re: Heat scales

The biggest combat effect is that temperature scales 3 points in either direction adds 2 enc if you don't have the relevant resist.

It also impacts heat and chill auras, heat and cold power units, and certain other spells, such as heat from hell and grip of winter, but this is not a big deal under most circumstances since those units and spells are fairly rare. Oh, and cold 2 or 3 gives you ice eles instead of water eles. Umm...nothing else coming to mind.

lols - like triple ninja'd

Heat and Cold effect combat by increasing fatigue the further you are away from your "correct" temperature. Units which have cold/heat power also gain that amount for each point of temperature. There are also some unique things like Water Elementals come out as Ice Elementals in cold weather. And rain comes down as snow.

Also, while not directly combat related, some spells like Murdering Winter and Flames from the Sky have a proprotional effect based on the temp of the target province.

This is not true. There is a flat effect of 2 points of enc at a 3 point temperature extreme if you don't have the appropriate resist. Nations like vanheim which have a cold pref still suffer from cold 3 since they don't have CR on their units, and jotunheim doesn't do any worse in heat-3 than any other nation without FR. Oh, cold blooded also suffers a lot in cold temps, forgot about that. It's 10 points at cold 3, plus the additional 2 for cold without CR and drops by 3 or 4 per scale down to 0 (it's 3/3/4 but I'm not sure in what order)

Ice elementals have higher protectoin and lower defence compared to water elementals, iirc.

Re: Heat scales

thanks for the answers so far.

Is rain and snow any different in terms of game effect? I remember rain doubles fatigue for fire spells. Is snow any different?

ironhawk says rituals like murdering winter and flames from the sky are more effective with the corresponding scale.

Does the same thing apply to combat spells like fireball or frozen heart?

Rain will also put out fires on any of your units that are burning.

No.

Re: Heat scales

According to the manual, a freezing unit takes fatigue damage each turn until it thaws. The chance of thawing is
25% + cold resistance + (heat scale x6), and the chance of fire going out for a burning unit is (25% + fire resistance + (cold scale x5) +100% if it is raining).

IIRC flames from the sky is not affected by scale.
