Item Spells

Couple questions for the experts:

1. For items that contain a spell, such as Numbness on an Ice Pebble Staff, does the commander equipped with this item accrue fatigue when Numbness is cast via the item? In other words, would a mage that's already capable of casting Numbness benefit from such an item?

2. When a commander dies of old age, what happens to his equipped items?

Thanks!

Re: Item Spells

1. 5 fatigue per cast. You can cast item spells twice per turn if you have quickness. Encumbrance does not matter, so go ahead and give your guy a Heart of Life and he'll never run out of gas, even wearing Boots of Quickness. There's no point in giving such an item to a mage, usually. An ordinary 40gp commander will usually do, unless you want better precision with higher HP, then summon a Sleeper.

2. They get buried with him. So, take them off before he dies.

i've had some commanders 'find x-magic item' in the same province as commanders who have died from disease. is it different for old age?

i can tell you that they didn't just die from disease. there has to be a battle there and they die in it.

Nope. No battle. It was in the middle of my empire, totally away from the front lines, and they weren't hit by any spells. The guy had a disease, died, and one of the other researching mages found his owl quill.
