Life drain/Soul Vortex

Will a lifeless caster regain health from these two spells?

I'm pretty sure that it works, yes. I have the distinct recollection of using soul vortex with (nehekaran) tomb kings, which are lifeless.

It even works with never heal creature like marble oracle
