gift / trade units
does not seem to work. neither ones in space nor in cargo. to my knowledge, it never has. they just dont show up in the list for gifts or trades.
any one know why, or how to do this if im just missing something silly? ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: gift / trade units
Puke, I'm not sure what you exactly mean, I've used gifts and trade with both Ai's and humans, and not had a problem. You just click on the what you want and what you want to give sections, pick what you want/give then hit send. Usually answer will show up next turn, however, i have found that sometimes if they give you stuff you have to click on the accept button that turn or it won't show up or take place. This happened a number of times but usually in a human vs human game. My ally sent gifts to me but I never got/received them. Howevr, as soon as I used the accept button, I've never had a problem.
I don't know if this is what you meant or not. PS. I would like to see AI ask for trades or gifts just some ideas mac [This message has been edited by mac5732 (edited 15 November 2001).] |
Re: gift / trade units
One way I know for SURE would work is to have the units in the cargo of a ship, and trade the ship.
I've never tried just trading a fleet of fighters or a pile of sattelites. |
Re: gift / trade units
yeah, you can trade ships that cary units. same goes for planets.
but on the trade screen, there is a button specificly for units. and there is never anything listed. There are lots of reasons to want to trade pure units, the most common of which would be to trade or give away a fleet of fighters or a pile of sats. in this case, i want to give away a minefield to another player. why? because i want it to blow up my allies ships if they come into the sector, and the third player is not allied with the second. (yes, this could be used in many games, but i want it for the Smash TV game, so i can keep people from using the center system as a jumping-off point.. im not actually devious enough to stab someone in the back this way) another use that i can think of, is to give troops to an ally. Why, you ask? MAD i say! If you each have troops on each others planets, you will keep your alliance for a very long time since Mutual Assured Destruction will keep things peacefull. this could also be handy for keeping a client state subjugated. or, if you could give troops in a cargo hold to another player, you could in essence capture a planet with your fleet, and have it go into his controll when the troops land. ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: gift / trade units
When I click the "Units" button in the trade or gift screens, I see ships that are carrying units as cargo. Apparently this is the only way to you offer units to another player.

Re: gift / trade units
I have traded ships with Ai only they begin where I originaly have them, However, Baron & Puke, in regards to trading fleet of ftrs/sats, what if you put ftrs into a fleet with 1 old or empty ship, then trade or gift that "fleet" to your enemy? I know it accepts ships, maybe as long as you have 1 ship in fleet, it would take the ftrs, sats, mines??? I don't know if this would work, never tried it.
