Creating OOBs
 
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people who ask questions. This one is mine: Is it possible to create a completely new oob, or does one have to edit one of the existing ones? I was thinking of, say, copying an extisting OOB into one
of the "R&D Only" slots and editing it in there. But that won't work if there's no mechanism to make the game let you use it.

To use OOB in the game, it HAS to be in place of one of the national slots.
R+D slots are good for just that - R+D, but to use the new OOB in the game, you HAVE to place it in an appropriate slot.
What OOB specifically do you want to make?

And while you're at replacing some original OOB, better talk to the devs, because the game is (and has to be) hard-coded to use certain formation at certain times - there's no way to set these things in outside files. :rolleyes:
You can, of course, restrict the availibility of some units to certain time spans - the AI will not get anything that is not in service yet/any longer. But this does not keep it from trying to buy the same formation over and over, as long as it has building points left, what will most likely result in very strange force compositions :cold: :doh:

So it is good to have the "original OOB" formations as a template atleast for basic types, like infantry platoon/co etc.
It IS possible to alter AI picklist, BUT... It is also possible to jump from 10 kilometers without a parachute ;)
