New PBW Game: Adamant 002
A new PBW game, entitled Adamant 002, is open. All are welcome to join. Here is the game's description:
Basically, this is a regular game of SEIV, but role-playing is a must. This is an open, non-structured RP. All players will be expected to role play their empires in the game. No OOC Messages. Since this is an RP game, no duplicate ship sets will be allowed. Before uploading your empire, please check the Shipsets thread in this game's forum to see if the ship set that you want to use is already taken. If not, post which one you will use and upload your empire. If it is already being used, you must choose a new ship set. Any player that tries to use a shipset that is already being used will be kicked from the game before I upload the first turn. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh; I just don't want any duplicate empires. Also, this game will be using Deathstalker's mount mod. It really isn't a full mod, just a single file (compenhancement.txt). It adds some new weapon mounts that allow for greater diversity. Other than these simple things, anything goes. |

*BUMP*
This game is still open, but we've only got 5/20 players. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
Re: New PBW Game: Adamant 002
Its the DS mod thats keeping everyone away, most think it's too hard to install. I personally had no problems with it. But the people I talk to on other sites don't like having to deal with mods when playing a PBW game because they are often in more than one game, and the addition of a mod screws up the games they are in.

Re: New PBW Game: Adamant 002
Someone (I can't remember who now) made a nice little zip file called Blank.zip that is in the mod archive. It includes most of the folders you need to make a mod folder (you could do it all yourself without any trouble, but he made it easier!)
Just make a mod folder for each PBW game. Most of the data files would be excluded, just put the modded data files in the PBW game mod folder. then the game will use the modded files for your game, and grab any missing files from the base SE4 folder. No more problems! This is also great for keeping the AI-less PBW races out of your solo games! |
Re: New PBW Game: Adamant 002
In case anybody is interested, I'm still accepting new players for this game. I plan on starting it on January 2nd or 3rd, so there's still plenty of time to join up!

I'm interested, I'm also a near-total Newbie. What do I do to get started?

OK, I've applied. Now how about this mod. Where do I get it and what do I do with it to add it to my install?

What I did was create a new mod directory called "Mounts-Modpack" under which I created a sub directories "Data" and "Savegame". Then I copied all the files from standard SE4 data directory into this new data directory. Then I copied in the new CompEnhancement.txt file from the mod. Finally adjust path.txt to point to the new mod directory and play away. |
Re: New PBW Game: Adamant 002
The way I do it is to have a seperate mod folder for every PBW game I'm in. It helps in several ways:
1. It keeps conflicting mods out of each other's way. 2. It keeps conflicting racial pic and AI-less emp files out of my solo games. 3. It simplifies sorting out which .gam file goes where. There is a zip file called "Blank" in the mods section. I can't remember who made it, but it is basically all the folders and subfolders you will need to make a mod folder. Also, with a few exceptions, you don't need to put _all_ of the data files in your mod folder. If the game can't find the file it is looking for, it looks in the default SE4 folder for it. (correct me if I'm wrong here) As to editing the path.txt file, I STRONGLY recommend Matryx's modpicker utility. He has a link to it in his signature on the Boards, so it shouldn't be hard to find. |
