After-effects of dying?
I'm wondering about these :)
Having had the recent misfortune of dying. When I return my magic path(s) are lowered by 1. If I pay the gem cost to empower back to the prior level, am I then back where I started for all purposes, with the exception only that I think each time I die I restart from a further 1 level down? |
Re: After-effects of dying?
I maybe wrong, but I don't think dying or empowering changes bless strength. I think it stays the same.

Re: After-effects of dying?
Yes, I understand that. I am looking for anything which does not stay the same after death and re-empowerment?

Re: After-effects of dying?
A pretender that
1) Has path level N 2) Dies 3) Is recalled, returning with path level N-1 4) Empowered back to path level N ...will be exactly the same as if they had not died (except with regards to any afflictions, etc. they may have incurred as a result of the damage that caused their death.) Furthermore, their bless effects will remain the same, whether or not they are re-empowered, or indeed whether or not they are recalled. |

Oh, and one other: while my minions are begging for my return, is there anywhere I can see how many "prayers" are still required? |
Re: After-effects of dying?
No, it just takes current path level and subtracts one when he returns.
Any empowerments, whether they're raising him higher or just bringing him back to the starting level are still counted. So he'd be N-1 if he died and came back again. If this time you empower him to N+1, he'll be at N when he dies and comes back. Edit: And no, you can't see how the prayers are doing. If you're trying to minmax it, you'll have to keep track. |
Re: After-effects of dying?
And I'm sure you'll be right :)
But you've made me fetch the scroll. It says: Quote:

Re: After-effects of dying?
Or each death causes a loss of one skill level in each path.
Nothing says empowerment goes away. Base + Empowerment - deaths = current magic. It seems clear to me. I can see the reading you're using, but I think it's a stretch. By the way, I'm pretty sure the 40 priest/level/turns for Call God is wrong. I believe it's actually 50. |
Re: After-effects of dying?
Yes, I see, doubtless you're right. It's the tension of hanging on every word in the manual!
In which case, to answer my original question, dying costs you out-of-action time, plus praying time, plus some gems. Serious, but not fatal :) As for the 50 prayers, that might answer why it seemed to take so long for my guys to get me back! |
