Couple Questions
 
Couple 'duh' questions, but its the little ones that can trip a person up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif


A)Ring and Sphereworlds
Okie I'm stumped as to how to produce these. I see what I need, but that's an awlful lot of tonnage, more than the large transport can carry. There's a trick (probably very simple too) but I'm missing it.

B)Population
I'm still trying to figure out just how much the population of a planet affects stuff. Comparing two plants with shipyards I see that there's a half-turn difference on my biggest ship (currently a star creater in a BC hull). Was wondering if there was anything else that it affects, resource collection, etc.

You have to build starbases with all the necessary components in orbit around a star and do the whole steller manipulation with the main starbase.

Innitially population was going to affect the number of facilities you can run, unfortunately that feature was either never added or removed during beta.

It has several effects. You can check the "Ability" tab of the planet see exact increases based on population. I believe the levels are 100M, 500M, 1B, and by 1B each up to 8B.

The effect that population has, production bonuses for both space yards and facility output, can be changed in SETTINGS.TXT if you want. Besides these effects, the militia that defends your planet when it is invaded is calculated from the amount of population present.

It then skips 9B and goes up to 10B, actually... but you would need to have a ringworld or sphereworld to get your population that high. The cutoff for Huge planets with Tiny Race trait is 9.6B http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Production/Construction Bonuses
1-99M: 0%
100-499M: 5%
500-999M: 10%
1000-1999M: 20%
2000-2999M: 30%
3000-3999M: 40%
4000-4999M: 50%
5000-5999M: 60%
6000-5999M: 70%
7000-7999M: 80%
8000-9999M: 90%
10B-77B: 100%

(77B is highest total population of Sphereworld)
