MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
I have read something about it somewhere, but I wanted to check my assumption was correct. So can anyone confirm that if
1. the wielder of a weapon with an effect canceled by MR (Star of Thraldom, ethereal crossbow, stone sword, etc.) 2. also wears magic penetration item (Eye of the Void etc.) -> then the Penetration item applies to the weapon's effect? As a side discussion, you may tell interesting experiences/ideas of such combinations. For example I am thinking of a couple of Caelum's simple A1 mages (for Aim) with etheral crossbows and Eyes of the Void, scripted on Fire at Large Monsters, as anti-SCs artillery in a balanced army, or anti-thug in combination with PD... Thanks in advance |
Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
As an FYI, Ethereal Crossbows work surprisingly badly as anti-thug weapons for the simple reason that they're shield blockable. Piercers are a far better option because they are neither MR-resist nor shieldblock-able.

Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
The answer to this thread is "No" pen bonus does not boost items.

*Which sounds like a terrible idea, until you realize that Arcocephale has incredible healers, and can thus pull this off. |
Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
I strongly suspect from my tests that pen items boosts spells cast by the wielder of spell casting items. Like the Crown of Overmight. I had a GoRed gargoyle equipped with the crown and pen boosters and it succeeded much more often than it should have done unaided. It even captured a MR 22 SC after a number of castings.

Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
and what about soul vortex? does penetration items on the caster help its effectiveness?

Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
Remember that at 0 penetration mr checks against 12, not 10. So, more often than expected should be baselined against that.

Re: MR cancel weapon effect + Penetration item
so u say that +1 to penetration is really +3 to penetration in most cases?
