Hosting Question
 

A friend and I would like to just play a game with each other and a few AIs? What's the easiest way to do so? I've read the "organizing games" threads but they seem like they were meant for collecting forum members. I just want to know how to connect 2 people.

The easiest way would be the dom3minions server http://www.dom3minions.com/ thanks to Gandalf Parker. There you can play the two of you and up to 3 AI against you. Go on hosted games, vs AI, then you pick a game and remember the port number. Go in dominions 3 create a god for the nation you want to play with (that is vanilla version) and go to network, connect to a server, type in: dom3minions.com, and then type in the port number of the game you picked and just click on your nation , you are gonna be asked whether you want your god to be the god of the nation or sth like that and when the two of you are in and ready with their nation selection press start.:) If you want to play the latest version of cbm or another specific mod then you should talk to Gamdalf himself or llamabeast to organise a game for you.

Will hosting myself like the manual says work? (I found the section in the manual after posting this topic).

I am not sure about that one probably it could work. But I found the easiest way to be the dom3minions server.

Hosting yourself works fine: Launch one instance of dom as a server on your machine, then one dom client on your own machine, with your friend connecting to the server. The good point of Gandalf's server is it's always running.
