Resource Management?
I was just thinking about resources in SEIV and I thought it might be interesting to have resources handled on a planet to planet basis, rather than on an empire scale.
For example, each planet would have its own store of resources for use in building ships, units, and facilities. If you ran out during construction than they're would a delay in construction. You could also use transports as freighters to move resources around and it might make play more interesting, say, you could attack an enemies transports putting a strain on their economy - which would be a nice touch. I'm sure the AI could handle it, since they already move population around, it would be a very similiar process. Of course, you would be able to turn this option off during game setup - since not ever likes to micromanage - although I this option wouldn't be so difficult... |
Re: Resource Management?
It sounds like you are describing the old 'manual' resource management system of some older games. Try Stars! for a sample of a game that works like this. Most people think it creates too much micro management.

In later stages of a game, you could have hundreds of colonies. Itīs nearly impossible to track so many data (I always get lost with what facilities are constructed in each planet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ). |
