OT: "Sunshine" [2007 Movie]

Just watched this (didn't think much of it, and didn't understand half of it!)

Anyway, assuming someone here has seen it(?), wouldn't it have been miles easier/simpler/more reliable to launch the bomb straight from Earth to Sun? What was the point of having to hang a spaceship off it? Thanks.

I haven't seen it but I always wonder why in Lord of the Rings didn't they just have one of the big *** eagles fly the ring over Mount Doom and drop it in. Or at the very least, they could have used a catapult...

Well, while looking into the premise of the film, which seems to be unforgivably far-fetched, I did find this tidbit of completely unrelated info:

"HBO just recently confirmed development of a series based Neil Gaiman's American Gods,"

Woo hoo! (If it doesn't suck).

You don't believe a bomb the size of Manhattan made with Earth's resources exploded into the sun could reverse the nuclear processes and cause the sun to start burning non-existent hydrogen again?

However, the movie it self is well made, maybe even excellent no matter the shortcomings of the plot.
