French OOB question

Hello,

I'm old in SP series (back 1995 ?) but was always there only lurking (and playing !). So I will take my keybord and ask for the french orbat some questions, sorry if it's not the good way to do :

-The FAMAS is rated like all rifles 1 accuracy, but shouldn't it get for the latest years a 6 just like all othe assault rifles with added optics. Troops deplyed in conflicts have those optics...

I have seen that the PvP (petit véhicule protégé for light protected vehicule) is already deployed even in Afghanistan and in other units. It's a small utility vehicule that will replace the old Peugeot P4 when protection is needed. However no way to find in Encyclopedia nor in French orbat or German (called Gavial) or Chile's orbat.

Thanks for answers ansd sorry for poor english.

The stock FAMAS has no inbuilt optics, so has not got the adjustment that other modern assault rifles (ACOG, SA80 etc) do.

Wikipedia does show a "FAMAS Infanterie" with a rail and added sights - but does not make clear if it is issue, limited issue, or a manufacturer's sales brochure item. I could easily be persuaded to make a FAMAS-I weapon (or whatever its acronym should be?) similar to the US ACOG units, if enough evidence is provided. Perhaps as a limited issue item to a few select elements.

Cheers
Andy

Have to get ready for work, something to get the ball rolling though. Sounds like the G2 is what is being referred to with a
450m increased range used by the French Navy, see bottom of ref. Don't know if by extension this means the French Marines use it.

It's the FAMAS-FELIN System fielded by the French Army by JAN 2010 no later than JUN 2010 if the need to be more conservative exists, though the first holds to the refs. Chacal I believe this information is what you were seeking. Someone else will need to step up to supply the UNITS needing this based on the info provided, I'm behind in my own work as is - sorry.

Re: French OOB question

Thanks Mobhack & Fastboat Tough for your precise answers.

Being in French Navy I can at least answer a bit about the G2 :

The G2 version is only a slightly mofified version, it is in service in the Navy and the 'Fusilers Marins' (French Marines)which are part of the Navy . It is simply better suited for use in the water environment, it can also fire different munitinons. However there is no more change per se. It's not in use in the French Army which kept the F1.

For the Army The added sights are issued in units on OPEX (opération extérieures - outside operations). This is just an add on like a red point etc... I have seen them in Djibouti. I Never was in Afganistan but on photos from there they are all equipped. On the other side in Cameroon in 2004 we get only completly normal, bare, FAMAS.

As for the FELIN, i know it's still being tested, and don't know how it will compare to more basic systems.

Anyway thank you for answers, if i can help with translations or reseraching, no problem.
