auto change spotter?

I noticed somethign happening for the first time and I wonder what is the cause. Rule or whatever.

While in the rest of the battle I had no problem, this turn I noticed my forward observers (first discovered it with my favourite G0, couldn't call a strike. I click on it, hit B and the strike screen had the main HQ as the spotter.
I clicked on the order strike button, the same result. I tried with a different forward observer, same thing.

I have never seen it before so, what gives?

This in an ongoing PBEM campaign.

It's likely that your spotter was out of contact, it can happen now. Since about 2 or 3 updates back. Off-map arty can fall off the radio net as well.

Also - spotters cannot call fires in if in retreat status or worse, or if they are passengers.

Cheers

The two following turns there was no issue.
I don't know what caused it and if all my FO were out of contact in the same turn, could be I guess. Thank you for the reply.

Doesn't out of contact arty disappear from the "call bombardment" list?

For me I will just accept that it is what Andy said first. I guess I was just unlucky. Hopefully it won't happen again (never happened before) cause it really hurts my ability of serving new digital souls to the digital afterlife.

If you want I still have the files (before and after I played my turn). I know, a miracle I actually kept them lol.
But I don't mind if you don't want them, I doubt it will happen again and if it does, I will make sure to double check if they are all out of contact with the HQ. (silly me for not checking that the first time, my bad) :)

Same here happens, although very rarely, when some arty unit loses contact and can't fire.
But that's when i spread them out too far to reduce CB fire damage.
It's a matter of formation cohesiveness, same as other combat units.

But in regards of FO's,they can push out too far on large maps to get better vis,and you mentioned your purpose of delivering accurate hellfire on your opponent(:
Good to keep a mech CO within contact but always safe.

It just happened again. My FO are indeed in contact. Yet, when I hit B, I get spotter the main HQ and not the FO.

I am going to add the (previous I guess) files here. "a" is the one I received and "b" is after I played my turn. I am USA.

If you want of this turn too, let me know. I will save a copy of them.

Re: auto change spotter?

This very occasionaly happens I think if use the next/previous buttons to select your FOO. Check the person spotting is the guy you selected if not quit bombard screen & select him by clicking on him. Now go back to bombard screen & he is directing.
Like I say very rare it happens but I always check person directing is who I selected.

I tried all of that. Both through the list and on its own and with the N/P keys. It's not just one FO, it's all of them.
I just received another turn, I wonder how it is, I will let you know.

ok, this time they work. weird.
