Just making sure

There can't be any magic sites in your home province, with the exception of the nation specific sites, right?

That is correct.

So don't waste a turn making your pretender search, like I have done until now.

It might be possible for a random event magic site to appear there, such as the various mines or the deepest cave in the province. I haven't seen it happen, but I wouldn't write it off. That said, don't site search capitals. Ever.

It is possible. I have seen it happen, generally with luck scales IIRC. Mines, usually.

But yeah, don't site search capitals.

On a related note... Shift-m with magic site searching will often target conquered capitals. I usually just let it happen because the micro to avoid it is too painful.

Hmmm, I was of the opinion that my Shift-Ms tended to do a good job of not searching enemy capitals... I think they do get searched when nothing else to do...

Enemy capitals are often prioritized low by the shift-M spells because they already have multiple sites, but eventually they will rise to the top of the priority list, unless there happen to be four sites there.
By the time I control enemy capitals, I'm usually focused on enough other things that I don't want to go check all of my shift-M site-searchers to see whether they're hitting a province that doesn't need searching. That tendency makes Voice of Tiamat mildly annoying, since your Augury and Gnome Lore casters may be hitting a province the same turn as a VoT hits it.

I remember from some discussion several years ago that caps are searched if their names don't match nation names (it happens if the names are set in map file). Usually I don't bother with reassigning shift-M searches, too.
