Magic nightmares?

I got a report about "a magic nightmare was projected at" one of my commanders. I looked around here and in the wiki, but my best guess of the source would be a Defiler of Dreams, but it makes no sense, since my commander was attacked while he was sieging an enemy castle at the beginning of the turn - and I expect all remaining nations being united against me by now. So sending the Defiler of Dreams would be counter productive (since my siege failed), as the Defiler does not move between provinces, or does it?

So what else can cause this?

Vengeance of the Dead. It is an MR negates spell that forces the commander to fight the ghosts of people they have killed. A nasty way to take out HoF heroes and thug/SC gods.

I think there's a spell that makes an attack in a dream as well, can't remember, maybe a R'lyeh national spell. I remember something about geting lost in the void in a dream or something like that...

There is an assassination spell for LA R'lyeh called Dreams of R'lyeh. It looks like creates a zone where the target and the caster face off in combat. I have never used the spell or been on the recieving end though. It may just function like a standard assassination attempt.

I've been in the recieving end, it looks like a fight in the space. When you lose, you get "lost into the void".

I can't remember if you get a message about a dream when you pass the MR, though.

Dreams of R'lyeh puts the user in an assasination battle with the target, with the target being at a disadvantage of having some of his stats reduced (not to mention the disadvantage of being up against a S4+ illithid mage lol. say hello to soul slay)
