Question About Some Scenarios

I noticed that in a number of scenarios, it indicates that if played against the AI, the human player should be a specific side. For example the Iwo Jima scenarios say that they are designed to be played as the American. Similarily, the Enemy at the Gates scenario says the human player should be the Russian. My question is, are these scenarios unbalanced if they are played by PBEM? In other words, is it more difficult or very difficult for say the Japanese to win one of the Iwo Jima scenarios when played by PBEM? Or how about Enemy at the Gates for the Germans?

Re: Question About Some Scenarios

There are scenarios designed exclusively for VS AI play, there are those exclusively for PBeM, and then there is a few that can be played for both VS AI and PBeM.
Also you can read the instruction for which sides to play on the scenario description. If you try to play deviating from what has been designed, more often than not the game will be unbalanced. This is especially true for those designed VS AI, since the AI side is mostly given a good advantage (more units, unbelievable unit dispositions, etc) by the scenario designer to give a decent challenge for the human player, taking into account that the AI is less able to devise a good plan unlike human opponents.

Re: Question About Some Scenarios

Most are for play Vs the AI & as a rule of thumb are unbalanced the AI side normally having the advantage, by how much varies from Scenerio to Scenerio.
