Mid and Late-Game Prophets

What sort of commander do you like to make into a mid or late game prophet?

If you make your starting scout or commander your prophet, eventually they are going to buy the farm. Good agricultural land is surprisingly cheap in dominions 3. But then what? Another scout seems wasteful. I’ve seen some impressive prophets out there but I also think that sometimes it may be wasteful to make particular units a prophet because they have so much other good magic going for them.

Now, obviously, if you cannot get Holy 3 units (maybe you have no access to communions or H2 priests and crystal shields or whatever), then maybe you need an H3 for divine blesses and a scout will do you just fine, but I feel that’s a minority of cases and its probably worth looking into other options.

So what do you like to use?

Personally, I like wraith lords and vampire lords due to their immortality- you want your prophet in your dominion so he gets the attribute bonuses and you definitely want your immortals in your dominions so they don’t die a permanent death so there’s some synergy there. But there must be better options.

A thug of some sort of thug that doesn't have too many other paths I think. You figure, the auto buff is always a plus, no matter how weak your bless.

Inquisitors (for nations that have them) can also make good prophets, since their holy level counts double for preaching against enemy dominion. I also sometimes prophetize H3 priests for nations that blood sacrifice, since getting them to H4 lets them use another slave each turn.

Of course, both of these strategies waste the prophet stat bonuses, except in a few cases (Gath has blood-sacing H3 priests/thugs, and can summon inquisitor/thugs).

Having H4 early also allows you to cast Fanaticism (which is a very respectable spell), which also transitions well into late game (keeps the chaff in the game longer).

Other than that, I like throwing it onto important national heroes and SCs. If I'm LA Ulm for example, I'd throw it onto the Blood Baron for extra stats and HP within dominion (which he'll always be in anyways).

It's also worthwhile for the extra stats on other important SCs.

Prophetising SCs is usually dumb because they'll be in enemy dominion most of the time and will therefore suffer stat penalties rather than boosts.
