Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
How do you get a mage to cast a touch spell? If you tell them to cast spells they hang back and cast. IF you tell them to attack they hit with their hand weapon. If you say attack attack then cast burning hands for example, they still don't.
So, why are their so many touch spells and how do you even get them to cast? |
Re: Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
I've had no problems with touch spells when the range and target is appropriate. I've used that immolation spell quite a bit. I think you have to be sure that 1) your caster is immune to the appropriate element and 2) your caster is in range.
I know the caelum eagle kings are regularly used to deliver shockwaves by scripting attack then the shockwave spell (though have never done it myself). You should be able to script "resist fire", "attack", "immolation", "immolation", "immolation" and have it work (if the caster can fly- if not they might still be out of range and you'll have to consider that). never tried burning hands... it just makes me think of putting my hand on a hot frying pan- doesn't sound that threatening. Who would cast such a spell and under what circumstances? |
Re: Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
You only need to be immune to lightning for the shockwave. Not all touch spells affect the caster. Poison touch doesnt posion the caster.
Besides instead of scripting these your mages automatically cast them when nexto to the enemy. (if they think thats the most damaging spell available). Thus, they are not useless. |
Re: Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
The problem is that if the caste is in melee range with the enemy then there is about 50%(?) chance that he will ignore your scripted spells and just attack the enemy with his fists or something. If you have quickness on the caster he will (probably) always cast his spell however.

Re: Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
I always thought touch spells are useless in general. Usually if you "need" to cast them, it means you are so weak you shouldn't be in the melee range anyway. If you are a unit that is normally in melee range that means you usually can take a beating and you almost always have a better attack (in terms of power and/or cost). Do people use them at all? There are many of them yet I don't know why they are in the game.
What are some cases you regularly use them? |
Re: Touch Spells - how can you even cast them?
One of the best cases for touch spells imo is Yomi's Oni General. They're tough enough to frontline melee even without a bless or items, and have a good mix of paths for it. D2 guys get hand of death with alteration 1. F1 guys get burning hands with evo 1. The earth guys can do fists of iron.
