Recommendations my friends...
 

Two weeks in...

I'm enjoying the hell out of it...

Will soon cast my lot in the MP arena...BUT before I do...

I realize from my Morrowind/Oblivion days not all MODS are created equal. It goes beyond personal taste....it must both be balanced AND have a refined quality about it.

CBM aside, what other mods would you consider requirements...whether tweaks, nations, or maps?

I've seen that list...I've seen other lists...but what I haven't seen really is a "definitive you gotta get these!!" list.

That's because - CBM aside in these parts - there aren't any other "must use mods". Games organised on here generally have CBM and sometimes one or two other mods (nation or other) someone wants to try out, but generally, if it's not specified it'll be just CBM. (There's also the occasional non-CBM (or earlier version of CBM) game being organised, but that should then be clearly stated in the OP, just because it's unusual here)

Disclaimer: The above goes for games organised on these forums and the dom3mods forums. The Something Aweful forums generally have different preferences.

I dont consider any mods to be "must use".
Altho on this forum, the latest CBM tends to be needed for most MP games.

Also the SingleAgeComplete mod is very popular (so that all 3 eras are mixed into one so everyone can play in the same game)
Or the Banners and Standards mod which changes the nation flags into more interesting banners.
But those might be for later games. Not absolutely necessary right off the start.

CBM is the only one I know of that changes the generic game. Thus you choose either vanilla or CBM. I like CBM better because I don't enjoy gemgen micro and I think it makes it more worthwhile using some summons. I don't like that it removed hammers but then also it sucks that Earth is the only way to get them.

All the nation mods on the previously mentioned page are good, try them yourself because there will be ones you gel to that others don't. Personally I enjoy the Warhammer mods (not all but most), Shangri-la and Alchera perhaps more than the others. But they are all quality, although some are still works in progress.

Why don't you try some and review them for us? :)
