SEIVG Q

I have a question regarding Space Empires IV gold for anyone who might know. Are there any changes to any of the Data files other than the addition of new comps system types and what not? Like would the current components and system and sector files still be compatable?

Yes there are changes. The changes were posted in another thread, but I could not locate it. Tampa Gamer or Mephisto should know what they are.

IIRC these files were changed/edited:
1. Components.txt
2. DefaultStrategies.txt
3. Settings.txt
4. DefaultDesigntTypes.txt
5. VehicleSize.txt
6. TechArea.txt
7. CompEnhancement.txt
8. Default_AI_Design_Creation.txt
9. Default_AI_Research.txt
10. Default_AI_Construction_Vehicles.txt
11. Default_AI_Strategies.txt
12. AI Race Files
13. All AI_Fleets.txt files
14. QuadrantTypes.txt

Zero, Mephisto is correct about the files changed. Almost every pre-gold mod needs tweaking to work correctly with the gold Version. A lot of modders put in some serious overtime in order to make their mods "Gold Compatible" for inclusion on the CD. One of the nicer features that MM has included in the Gold Version and will include with all future patches is a separate "history.txt" file which documents the changes to the data files in order to help the modders out.

Dang...

I wanted to start working with some of my ideas I've recently had, but I have no idea how the files have changed. I'll just have to wait till gold.

Don't worry about the gold changes just yet:
You can get most of your play balance settled with SE4 classic, just remember to save a place in the mod for drones (ship-like components, Warping, can only "attack", can be carried by ships & planets, hit by PD, etc).

Given a core mod, it is quite straightforward to Goldify it (though extra tweaks are inevitable given new options http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ).

Zero, go ahead and start. The key word is that they will require "tweaking" not "substantial changes". Most of the changes you will be able to cut/paste from the new files into your modded files.

Actually, I was planning to do some drone work too. I was thinking about redesigning them so they are missiles, then remove missiles. Add new components specificaly for drones. I think it would be a cool mod.
