Avoiding domkills?

Yes, I was turtling as Gath, but do you really feel I should have been dom-killed? I would like some advice as to how to avoid being killed by having no dominion.

I was Gath.
I owned about 30 provinces.
My capital was owned by my.
I had a temple in almost every province.
My dominion was level 10 at nation creation.
My pretended had never been killed.

But I got dom-killed?

Kill the guy with blood sac before he can set the dominoes in motion.

... pay attention to your own dominion? Gath can blood sac for pretender sake.

And you cannot stop bloodsaccing with temples. Bloodsaccing generates a lot more temple checks than temples do. The only way to prevent blood sac domkill is by bloodsaccing yourself, or killing the offending nation.

Hypothetically, wouldn't having lots of H2 & H3 priests preaching at temples also help?

iirc preaching/heretic is processed before temple and bloodsac domspread. So even that will not help much.

Re: Avoiding domkills?

Assuming you have a fair number of provinces, your H3 in a province with enemy dominion should be able to push that back in your favor. You're hitting his candles from the prior turn, and if you hit more than he's making, you should be able to keep your dominion alive.

So it depends on dominion production vs. cancellation... his one blood sacrificer can produce a *lot* of candles. It make take you several preachers to counter it. But you can stack several preachers on one temple.

Re: Avoiding domkills?

There are a number of reasons that doesn't work. One should be fairly obvious - preaching can only raise dominion up to a certain level. With h3 preachers that's 6. Blood saccers aren't limited to this, they can go all the way up. Higher levels of dominion are more difficult to erode than lower levels of dominion. It takes a LOT of preachers to do anything like fighting off heavy dominion sacrifice. Each slave sacrificed is worth two temple checks. That means if one h3 priest is sacrificing, his province is generating 7 temple checks per turn. Now make that 10 h3 saccers and you have to have an insane number of priests to make even a dent in that. It's just not feasible. And this is why blood sacrifice and killing the other guy are the only reasonable options.

There is also the option of targeting is blood saccers and blood economy to slow him down, raiding to destroy temples where the saccing is done, and using counter preaching to buy more time while you kill him. A well executed blood sac dom kill is pretty hard to counter though, since you might not even have a border with that player. In the Gath example the answer is clearly to blood sac yourself.

H3 priests can only generate +6 dominion no matter what. No matter how many you have that's a max of 16 candles per province. If he's got enough territory he can overwhelm this, period.

You are wrong. Stop replying please.

You do not understand blood sacrifice, you do not understand preaching.

Thank you for not playing.

Goodbye.
