Confusing Problem Need Help

I am working on creating my own mod using Advanced Traits as Race specific traits.

EXAMPLE:
I have added Borg Knowledge to my RacialTraits, and data blocks for Borg Technology, Studies, and Weapons into the TechArea file. I then went into the Components file and changed some of the weapons to target the borg technology. (IE Tech Area Req 1 := Temperal Weapon was changed to := Borg Weapons.)

I start a test game, and set up two races, one with the Borg Knowledge selected in the Advanced Traits section, and one without any advanced trait.

Here comes the odd part. The race that has JUST the borg Advanced Trait selected can access all New Advanced Traits. In other words, all the races specific components such as the Federation's or 8472's. The race without any Advanced Trait selected does not have them.

Non of the original Advanced Traits show up like this, so I don't understand what it is I am doing wrong.

I have uploaded my current test work for anyone who would like to take a shot at helping me.

There are three items, Components (limited, RacialTraits, and TechArea.

They have been set up for what I am trying to do. Make copies of your original files, and back them up. Then put these in your DATA folder, and run SEIV. Right now, I only have some Borg Tech that someone else made, and a some Federation tech. (I am trying to use what is out there to save time.)

You can use these Advanced Traits on any race. You'll see what I mean when you start the game and open the Advanced Trait's window.

Simple cause, maybe not so simple solution. (Well, it won't be hard, but it may take you a while. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

Here's the problem: <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>Trait Type := Tech Area
Value 1 := 3<hr></blockquote>

You have this entry in each of your new racial traits. This Value 1 has to be a unique number for each racial trait. The stock ones with the game are 1 through 5 (3 is psychic). You need to make 8472 = 6, borg = 7, etc. Then in your techarea file you use Tech Area : # for each of the race specific techs. The components file may be alright, because it calls for the name of the tech area in the tech area file instead of the tech area #.

i found for long laborious changes the find command works pretty good, just have to careful of what you are changing. might be easier to go through the list though as you sometimes miss htings with find.

Did you read all that stuff in Techarea.txt that comes before the tech areas? It's a bunch of designers notes that explain a lot of the fields in the file. I find them to be most useful. They are in just about every data file.
