Scavengenator
QM's brilliant idea was to fill provinces with commanders with items - see http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/...?showtopic=762. The Dominions 3 default command used was a bit bad in the sense that it generated all sorts of crap from too bad to too good to too nasty to the commanders in overwhelming amounts.
After some IRC discussion in July I coded a quick program. Now I've written 11 releases of it on the other forum and finally bothered to add some actual content - which isn't that much, but whatever. I also figured I'd share it here too. The content is also probably not very well balanced, but you, the user, can tweak settings.txt and files in /data/ folder to make it more enjoyable. How it works for just generating maps: 1. Copy a .map file to it's directory 2. Open starts.txt and write corresponding (syntax should be very obvious) nation-province combos 3. Start the program (works on Linux/MacOS with console/whatever and java -jar scavengenator.jar, Windows with either that or .exe) and write the map's filename and press enter. 4. ??? 5. Get a scav_mapname.map How can you edit stuff: - Settings.txt contains the most major settings - /data/-folder has text files for national starts, items and commanders. The default ones are pretty well commented, but ask if you are unclear about something. Get it from here: http://koti.kapsi.fi/~elmokki/dom3/scaveng...genator-v11.zip Here are some shiny pictures: http://koti.kapsi.fi/~elmokki/dom3/s...tor/heroes.png Glorious heroes defending a province! That barbarian chief had an amulet of vengeance which was pretty interesting to stumble upon. http://koti.kapsi.fi/~elmokki/dom3/s...nator/thug.png Sometimes some units may get fairly decent sets of gear. This isn't the most fearsome thing I've seen, but the armor isn't bad at all. http://koti.kapsi.fi/~elmokki/dom3/s...nator/loot.png ...and this is the whole idea of the utility of course. |
Re: Scavengenator
I will gladly try it out.
It sounds like a middle ground between my Chaos games and the SemiRandom program I started. I always said it could be tweeked up abit if I pulled data files from Edi's database then deleted some of the least and some of the greatest. Is that what you did? |
