Movement With Suppression

I find some units with suppression of 6 - 10 can move while others can't. Is this purely random or is there some determining factor?

If the suppression is not enough to make them pinned - then of course they can move.

Pinned/buttoned status is dependant on troop quality (morale and experience) and also damage received.

I noticed that the type of unit as well seems to be a factor in reagrds to morale when compared to suppression points. In other words a crew may become routed with less suppression points than say an infantry unit. Just a guess but that's what I've seen.

Andy,

After your response I did a close look and here is what I found. For suppression values 6-8, the lower the suppression values the more unit units move - makes sense. For suppression 10 almost all units don't move - again makes sense. Suppression 9 is interesting movers and non-movers are about balanced. Here are the experience, morale and damage figures for the movers and non-movers I saw. The damage figures are for 12 man units.

Movers (4) - experience 72 - 80 morale 87 - 92 damage 1 - 5
Non-movers (5) - experience 74 - 83 morale 80 - 83 damage 2 - 6

It looks like experience and damage don't affect it, but morale does. Threshold 85?

Morale is key.

Inexperienced troops do suffer a bit more suppression though when fired upon.

Damaged troops usually have some suppression added for that - especially depleted sections (half or more are casualties), typically being automatically 'pinned' status at the start of your move, so requiring a rally to get going.

I've researched this some more. For those who are interested, the morale breakpoints are 85, 75, 65, 55. The higher the morale the more suppression is required to pin or retreat. I presume it holds true for rout as well but that's hard to pin down. I haven't looked at units with low morale (below 50) to see if they behave the same way, but presumably they do.
