HMG penetration
I'm happy to hear about the buffs applied to HMG penetration figures within 300m; that said, the numbers don't appear to be reflected in MBT_APCalc, which still thinks the HE penetration is a constant 1, and I've not had a chance to field-test them yet. I'd like to know; how exactly are the buffs applied, mechanically? Is there simply a class of weapons that's been given the buff?
My main issue comes with the "enhanced" armor-piercing ammunition, particularly the .50cal SLAP (USA OBAT 12 Weapon 23). Official figures give it 19mm at 1500m, which testing with MBT_APCalc achieve with an AP figure of 6. That makes it very deadly for an HMG, which is only appropriate. The question is how it might stack up with the new v7.0 change to HMG weapons. |
Re: HMG penetration
Be easier to try using it & see the game is not cut & dried.
As new changes only take effect out to 300m its probably going to get a slight increase if the die roll is right so it MIGHT effect armour of 5 or 6 at 100m but don't bank on it. 1500m is still the same normally good vs armour 1 sometimes armour 2 |
Re: HMG penetration
Okay. I've run a few field-tests with the HMGs at close range, using vehicle AAMGs and tripod-mounted M2 Brownings and NSV machine guns. The results showed that it was a crapshoot if they would penetrate armor 2 at nearly point-blank range. I rolled some penetrations, but for the most part it was pen 1. If there was a HE pen boost in the last patch, I don't see it, unless the occasional PEN 2 rolls were it.

HMG are not meant for anti-armour work, post about 1936-7 or so. If you really need to penetrate light armour (of over class 1) then you need at least the 14.5mm KPV or better yet a proper 20mm cannon. Cheers Andy |
