037 Wolmi Do Landing: 9/50 - Feedback
Nice scenario but I wonder if the setup isn't a bit far off history.
Isn't the account of enemies usually said to be around "200 killed and 136 captured"? I was already past 600 and didn't even get them all as the scenario ran out before I reach to most southern tip. Not to forget how intact many installations(bunkers but also artillery positions) are on the island, and that after: September 10: "43 American warplanes flew over Wolmi-do island, dropping 93 napalm canisters to “burn out” its eastern slope in an attempt to clear the way for American troops." September 13: "Destroyer Squadron Nine, headed by the USS Mansfield, sailed up Eastern Channel and into Inchon Harbor, where it fired upon enemy gun emplacements at Wolmi-do." and "allied cruisers proceeded to bombard the North Korean batteries for the next three hours from the south of the island." September 14: "the destroyers and cruisers bombarded the island again and planes from the carrier task force bombed and strafed." And about the tanks, usually the Pershing is mentioned but if there were also tanks with flame throwers and dozers used I wonder if Pershing is correct, was there a flame thrower version and a dozers version of the Pershing at all? Maybe mixed Shermans and Pershings. Altogether I think the North Koreans should be more battered, maybe the numbers in each Korean squad could be lowered. |

WinSPMBT casualties don't correspond to killed and wounded.
About half a typical unit is lost to shell shock in battle, and battalions become disorganized below 70-80% strength. So those 600 casualties might actually mean a fifth or a tenth of that in terms of wounded. Haven't played the scenario in recent memory but your casualty figures do sound realistic. It probably could use some mixed Shermans and Pershings though. I think SPWAW had a scenario for Wolmi-Do like that. |
