colonizable homeplanet types only
If you can only colonize homeplanet types, what about conquered races of other types ? Possible to colonize these other than homeplanet types with them ? Would make sense.

Re: colonizable homeplanet types only
I don't think you can. It would make sense, but it doesn't make much sense that a population suddenly changes its racial characteristics (combat skills, production skills) just because they have been conquered by another race.
The thing to do is to establish a colonise & trade agreement with a friendly human neighbour: Say I'm gas/ oxy and my ally is ice/ methane - I would colonise all the gas planets in his space, and then trade them for all the ice planets which he has colonised in mine. Alternatively, allow your enemies (only AIs would be stupid enough) to colonise in your space and then take the planets over with troops or intel. |

No, I do not want the conquered race to change characteristics (does it change to my race's characteristics ?). But if I'm Gas Giant race and the conquered planet is Rock and I build a SY on it, I should be able to put the Rock race into a Rock colonization module (if researched or stolen) and this Rock population should be able to live on a Rock planet, why not ?

quote:
I do not want the conquered race to change characteristics (does it change to my race's characteristics ?).

Yes, that's another quirk of the game design. When you capture population, they switch to your race's characteristics; the only thing that doesn't change is the atmosphere type that they breathe.

Re: colonizable homeplanet types only
Well, the reason why not is because you selected colonize only home type at the start of the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif It's a hard code thing that cannot be gotten around once you select it at game start.
As Dogscoff said, the only way to colonize these worlds is to allow them to be colonized by someone else, and then trade for them, or take them. If you want to be able to colonize the other types yourself, you will have to change the game settings at startup and not select that option. It was put in as an option to slow down games, and it does a pretty good job of it Geoschmo |
