Weapon 56 – 81mm M1 Mortar
Currently the game gives the M1 the range of the rarer light M43 bomb, but with the HE Kill of the standard M56 bomb. Recommend changing the range to the standard 2655yds. Could also change minimum range to 300yds. According to four different declassified US Army primary documents, the two main munitions available were: The standard M56 mortar bomb (10.6 lbs) with range of 2,655yds (by 1944 they say 2,558yds). The light M43 mortar bomb (6.9 lbs) with range of 3,288yds There was also a rare heavy M45 (15.01 lbs) bomb with a range of 1,280yds. NB. Websites have a lot of errors on the 81mm mortar bombs, and Hoggs also has it wrong. The errors often get the M45 and M56 switched around, and sometimes the M56 is called M36. The M36 error originated in a US Army document typo; even though the M56 is correctly referenced elsewhere on the same page. This also applies to USMC OOB 13 weapon 56 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r_Dec.1942.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r_Oct.1943.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ortar_1944.png Cross |
