Have cluster munitions become less effective?
I've realised today in a 1989 scenario I played that CM have become less effective (ie not the magic rain of annihilation they were before), at least in the latest generation of tanks such as T80BV. Is it true? It's a welcome change for sure as it makes late Cold War scenarios more challenging than before if playing for the NATO side.

Yes, they went down from 50-60 to 25ish IIRC. Should be in the release notes somewhere - if not a quick perusal of Mobhack should show the new numbers.
Not so massively effective on modern MBT with decent top armour, but will still have an effect on light armour and 60's tanks etc. |
Re: Have cluster munitions become less effective?
Mostly 10-ish for artillery-launched ammunition, I believe. Top-mounted reactive armor does a decently good job against it.

10 for tubes
Rockets are generally 10 to though some are 18 Tubes are marginally more effective due to bigger warheads. Fairly important as about 5-10 years after they come into service main players MBT generally need a hull hit to take them out. 7-10 top hull becomes the norm. Best uses in my view really are vs priority targets like ATGMs & SAMs or vs troop transport. Still useful vs second world or some old MBTs but best to try & coordinate with ground forces so can attack survivors while suppressed. Russian T0S-1 flame rocket is scary & handy for things like river crossings. High hard & soft target kill & suppression so survivors are open to attack, any surviving infantry are probably blinded by smoke & fires which can even effect TI if LOS enters enough hexes |
