droppig bridges

Does anyone have experience on which gun is necessary to drop wooden bridges? I am using 105 mm howitzer and 25pounders can they do the job?

25pdr or 105mm no. Shells that don't crater wont drop bridges, basically.

I think you need 122mm (Warhead 6/7) or above, 8 inch (warhead 10/11)for stone ones.

Also, it'll take more direct hits than before as we made the chance of breaking bridges much less several releases back.

cheers
Andy

Nothing can do the job reliably go big if you want any chance, guns listed certainly wont do it.
Generally I would say its a waste of a fire mission though.
Bombs are more likely to take it down IF you can get the plane to target it.
Don't take as gospel but while penetration value is important seem to remember warhead size plays a big factor so big bomb is the way to go.
Andy posted at same time which sort of verifies warhead theory

Useing a demo team drops them best, but that may be only in defend missions:)

Thanks for the hints, though based on my experience slightly lighter guns have been sufficient to blow up bridges.

I just set up a little test game (two medium field regiments RA versus a couple of bridges in Netherlands 1940) to see how I would manage to blow up bridges. Results are as following:

- 4.5 inch (ca. 114 mm) guns were sufficient to blow up wooden bridge
- 6 inch (ca. 152 mm) howitzers were sufficient to blow up stone bridge

Whether blowing up bridges is tactically worth the effort depends on situation, but the bridges themselves might make good targets since they are chokepoints. And if there is a heavy tank company approaching a wooden bridge, a lucky hit may blow up the bridge at the right moment, taking out an enemy tank with it.

First off, you are quoting Andy not "valo2000" and 4.5 inch guns are WH6 which is what he said you needed for wooden bridges .

Ooops, looks like I forgot to mention the warhead sizes for the guns in question. As already mentioned, 4.5 inch guns are warhead 6, while 6 inch howitzers are warhead 8.

Re: droppig bridges

...and If I had bothered to read the Mobhack manual, I would have known that already 140 mm calibre is sufficient for the warhead rating 8 required to destroy stone bridges.

Re: droppig bridges

I don't think dropping a bridge by heavy arty alone is the way to go, and would be a waste of ammo, better used for else where IMO.
Unless you have FO's gold spots on, but still seems it would still take a lucky hit
A demo team would do the job as they've are already prepared to blow it,in a defend battle.
