Map Database
I was wondering what sort of map database people would find useful?
There's a lot of excellent maps out there, but finding the right custom map for a battle can be difficult. The idea would be to create a sortable list of not only all the stock maps, but for every SPWW2 and SPMBT custom map that's been posted online. Back in 2010 I started a spreadsheet, but didn't get past map 141. I have 729 maps in my SPWW2 maps folder. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...p.database.png The spreadsheet includes these: Map No. Map name Country name Location Width (hexes) Height (hexes) Size (Sq. KM) Season (desert, summer, winter) Map balance (meeting, advance, assault) File weight (helps to weed out duplicates) File date Creator (if known) Is anything missing? You can then sort the spreadsheet by any column to find all the desert maps, for example, or sort by location etc. Does anyone know of a website which could accommodate such a thing, where people can upload maps and fill in data fields? Or is a spreadsheet with an associated zip file, of all the maps in the database, the best way to go? I doubt I'll have time this year, but Scorpio_Rocks may take on the project. Any suggestions or input would be welcome. Cross |
Re: Map Database
I am happy to be involved in any capacity I can folks! :)
I am guessing there must be in excess of 2000 maps available - eeek!!! So it's quite a big job! Then of course we need somewhere to host it and/or for some poor schmuck... erm... dedicated "volunteer" to update the darn thing... Is this something people want? ...would use? Is it possible? ...practicable? Thoughts? :feedback: |

But it's still a lot of work. Some of the 729 maps I have in my SPWW2 maps folder are actually SPMBT maps that are perfectly usable in WW2. Perhaps another column should be: Originally Created For: SPWW2 / SPMBT Cross |
Re: Map Database
If we divide the work among several people?
Take this opportunity to ask. Any tutorial to create maps? |
Re: Map Database
This sounds great! And yes it would be used much!
