question about infantry
A number of times I've noticed that I'll have an infantry platoon thats routed or retreating and it will eventually return to a pinned status. Sometimes it will stay pinned for the remainder of the battle. Why? Thanks

Re: question about infantry
meant to add that its no longer being fired upon- it just stays pinned

Re: question about infantry
From my experience, if their casualties are too high they will always be pinned with 10 or so suppression at the start of turn - but they still can be rallied.
Guess this is to simulate that if a squad has lost more than half it's man they will be "a little reluctant" to be sent to the front again. |
Re: question about infantry
If its separated from other units so out of contact, especially if it has no radio it can start gaining a few suppression points. Also it cant be contacted for rally purposes.
If it has suffered heavy losses it may also decide its had enough & stay pinned. Many factors contribute. |

That said, units that are this badly mauled are IMHO better kept away from serious fighting unless you are desperate - due to their losses they have reduced firepower, and they can easily get destroyed/dispersed if they take a few more casualties (giving your opponent more victory points). And in campaigns their loss is even worse, since you will both lose any experience gained, and require more repair points to get them going again. Therefore, I might be wise to move such units into some good, defensible position, where they can stay hidden and keep an eye on captured victory points or some other important areas. But try to avoid spots that might attract enemy artillery fire. |
