The Haitian Debacle I
November, 2010 Jacmel, Haiti UN MINUSTAH Defend vs. RED Attack (Haitian Insurgents) DESCRIPTION: The horrors arisen among the Haitian population from the Earthquake in January as well as The MINUSTAH presence in Haiti has finally taken its toll. Insurgency explodes as anti UN/USA groups backed presumably by the Cuban and Venezuelan governments, local druglords and other interested parties steadily fund the organization and equipment of these desperate rebel and milita groups. UN Intelligence reports that armed units are advancing to Cap Haitien and causing panic along the way. The UN's unit deployed in the city mission is to repel the insurgents and to prevent damage and harm to UN property and Aid personnel. November, 2010 Jacmel, Haiti US Army/UN MINUSTAH Attack vs. RED (Haitian Insurgents) DESCRIPTION: As political unrest grows and with further delay on provision of basic human services among the population, roving bands of well armed insurgents continue to sprout in every major town across Haiti. The town of Jacmel falls under chaos in presence of armed warbands and the MINUSTAH garrison remains grossly outnumbered. As part of the Caribbean Crisis Response Task Force, An US Army batallion is called upon to suppress the uprising, and relieve the MINUSTAH garrison on Jacmel. Very cool. I deployed to Haiti with the 82nd right after the earthquake. Very depressing place.

Whoa, what a ride! I opened the scenario, read the description, and pressed start. I had no idea of what in the heck was going on. Lets just say that UN commander Lt. Col. Emecheta must have just arrived that morning, because I had no idea what to do.
In the second turn, I recognized the VH flags and began to understand the magnitude of the attack. It took four turns to form a plan to deter the aggressors. A mixed plan of ambush, hasty defense, and finally counter attack. It was costly. I lost 101 guys to their 616 or so souls, earning a Marginal Victory. But I kept the aid workers and civilians alive, at least got that right.
