Troops: Infantry?

This may seem strange but i would like to see the addition of Infantry as unit type. They would function as troops, however they would get a bouns against defending population, but get a penalty against actual defending troop type units. You would design them just like any other. Add parts like "Laser Rifle II" "Body Armor IV" etc... . And to buy them you would have to pay minerals for them. They would be displayed the same way population is 1unit=1m. So lets say you made an infantry type unit "Super Dude". 5 "super dudes" would be displayed as 5m Super dude. Mabey you might even have to convert population?, mabey not.. . It also would make the "Phsyical Strength" aspect of stats make sense... .

And in terms landing on planets with opposing atmospheres mabey a part like "hostile Enviroment suit"?

I mean its just an idea but i like it...

Maybe use population as militia, just like in the original MOO? Wouldn't it be cool to be able to load up population into a transport & dump them on a planet & let them fight it out with the alien population? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

It's not that strange, something like this has been posted a few times.
My Version of infantry is based in some of my own ideas + some comments seen in this forums is:
1 kt and 2 kt vehicle sizes as Light and Heavy Infantry. You can add in the description that they are an infantry platoon and not a single trooper.
The neostandard picture names for infantry are "racename_portrait_TroopInfantry" and "racename_mini_TroopInfantry", and first alternatives to copy from are race_portrait and pop_portrait, being troopsmall the second choice.
They do not require bridge or anything (the environmental suit is built-in, and a trooper does not need to carry a cockpit in his backpack).
And make a 1/3 size weapon mount for troop weapons describing them as rifle/bazooka sized Versions. I had thought about a specific rifle component before, but the weapon mount allows more variation in weapons without the need to make a lot of new components.

Needing pop to recruit would be a nice touch but it's not possible with mods.
Some others had chosen to make it a little bigger and make it require a life support (to represent the environmental suit) or make a cockpit with a boult in weapon.

I played the Ultimate Mod. The light infantry in it had the same happiness effect. A real bargin, you could fill a small planet in one turn.

I still like MOO. STARS! also uses population for invasion. STARS! is old (win3.0) and and has depth but got tedious.
