Limiting CB Losses

While playing a scenario (#171-Facing the Angry Bear) both my off-board 155mm "platoons" of three guns each got hit hard by counter-battery fire. After firing all tubes for several turns consecutively in an effort to knock out spotted SAMs I noticed they no longer appeared on the bombardment screen. At battle's end I learned that one was destroyed (611 points lost) while the other was routed (230 points down the drain).

My question is, since you can't move them around is there anything you can do to limit off-board losses from CB? Would turning off one or two tubes, or avoiding firing on successive turns make any difference? Sorry if this has been covered before. Thanks.

(BTW the scenario was a tough nut to crack. Took me about 7 or 8 restarts to get a marginal.)

if you don't want to risk C/B fire - don't fire them them. Then they may even shoot counter-battery onto something of his.

Re: Limiting CB Losses

Personally I rarely fire off-board artillery the first half of any game, I let them concentrate on performing counterbattery.

Since I frequently play the USMC which has limited artillery (the USMC relies heavily on close air support vice artillery - something WinSPMBT doesn't model very well) I usually use O/B artillery ONLY for its C/B ability and use mortars for on-map support.
