Start lines

Somewhere I've seen the default start lines for the AI in a long campaign but cannot fine them. Could someone please tell be where the info is.

Re: Start lines

Its start line will be the same distance in as yours is for that type of battle, just measured from the other map edge.
So meeting on an 80 wide map start line for both sides is 23 hexes from the edge.

That's what I thought until I played an advance. My start line was 30, I hit the enemy 45 Hex in from his edge.

Re: Start lines

Were you playing a scenario? - user campaigns are a linked list of scenarios, designed by whoever made the campaign. AI forces start where the designer put them in that case.

Was it a water battle (beach, wide river or lake?) - the AI deploys differently on those maps with large patches of deep water.

The AI on the defence will also on rare occasions patrol forwards into no man's land, just to keep you on your toes. The AI will sometimes deploy a few elements a few hexes over the start line as well, if it deployed a platoon right on the boundary.

As I said when I posted, it's a long campaign. No rivers, no beaches.

This might be an answer except there's more than a patrol or two. Tanks, AT, Inf the whole works. I encountered them (Russians) roughly on hex line 53 or 54 with deep deployment towards their, what I thought was their start at hex line 69.

I'm not complaining by the way just want the info. Varying the start line in an advance makes for a more interesting scenario.

I would like to see the start lines in meeting engagements reduced or made variable. I find line 30 too far forward.

Got to admit I am a bit confused here.
Your start line 30 so I would assume a map 100 wide
If it was a meeting engagement AI start line would therefore be around the 70 hex mark.
But
Its an advance so AI start line is at the halfway point which is 50 hexes.
Just like yours would be if you were delaying.

So what I said originally stands

It was an advance. The info I was after is 50. I thought, wrongly as it happens, it was 30.

Thanks

Re: Start lines

The defender gets to deploy up to the half-way line on the map. All others get to deploy out to 25% map width from their baseline.
