This IS a bug right!?!

Check out the screenshot... an enemy construction base appeared deep within my local space out of no where!?!?! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif It is not stealth capable and certainly couldn't move. This enemy is an AI player and has never owned that system before, so it couldn't have built that base there without me knowing. The strangest thing is, I even know what it is building! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Strange things happen!!

If you say RANDOM EVENT, do you think of a space fold (I don't know if that is the right term), or one of the intended random events by the game ?

EDIT: Sorry, I should have read your Posts with more attention...

It didn't attack 'cause you hadn't made first contact. IIRC you need to have a Warp Point path open between colonized planets to initiate First Contact. A ship won't do it...

I once had a Space Station with a SY on it zapped most of the way across the galaxy. I did not have a WP path back to my empire. I started building ships for quite some time and then started 'jabbing' the AI here and there - take out a new colony, waste a colony ship here and there, small fleets, etc. The AI acted as if I wasn't there at all - totally ignored me.

Unfortunately, I had no population so I couldn't settle anywhere there. However, I have started games in little tiny corners of the map (blocked in by limited WP's) with only 3 or 4 systems and got out that way - build a few extra colonizers and just send 'em back and forth between a few Resupply Depots. If you have random events turned on, sometimes you get lucky and one (colony ship) gets zapped to another (hopefully empty and 'fruitful') system to liberate (read 'plunder').....

rdouglass,

You could have also built a transport and some troops on your SY base, and then taken one of those small colonies. Then you would have had some population to build with in that part of the galaxy.

If this is a random event as such, why do I know what it is building? And from what you guys described about the AI's behaviour, this "feature" seems quite unintentional! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

lol

Could be worse, your entire warfleet could be transported to a blackhole's center where it is promptly destroyed....

Now you'll excuse my while I attend a funeral for the same fleet..

As for why you can see what it is doing... I dunno. bug!

"AI's behaviour, this "feature" seems quite unintentional!"

The behavior, yes. The feature, no. It's an intended random event.

My guess would be that this is an "event". I have had stuff teleported across the game universe a number of times, ships, and satellites especially.

There is a random event which moves ships and bases across the map to a random location. Most likely this is what happened to the unlucky norak base. I once had my satellite group transfered to the enemy system. It was a nice recon. station, since other race (it was AI) did not attack it for some reason. Strange though that you can see what it is building.

This is a result of a RANDOM EVENT. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Welcome to the club. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
