Fairey Firefly Carrier borne Fighter Bomber
The Fairy Firefly saw extensive service from WWII until after the Korean War with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (and the Royal Australian Navy post WWII).
Operational from 1943, it was used in Europe notably in a large Scale FAA attack on the German battleship Tirpitz, but saw most WWII action in the Far East against Japan, alongside RN Seafires, Corsairs, Barracudas and Avengers. I wonder if it might be included in Ground Attack aircraft? http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircr...ircraft_id=453 http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/aircraft/firefly.htm |
Re: Fairey Firefly Carrier borne Fighter Bomber
Why? as your references clearly state it was a naval aircraft that wasn't used as ground attack...

You will note Fireflys were used for ground attack in the Far East from December 1944 and, Post war, extensively in Malaya and Korea. |

PS
My understanding is, that as a Naval Carrier aircraft it cannot go under normal fighter-bomber/strike aircraft, just like the FAA version of the Corsair. |
