XP issue with savegames
 

I didn't want to start a topic just for my problem but i really need a solution. This is worse than PBW being down cause im the only one (so far that i know of) that this affects. so here goes:
I have recently upgraded to XP and i tried installing SE4 and playing it as usual however it became very difficult as any new games i started would be all black until i minimized and reopend (redrew in escence) the screen.
And any old savegames i tried to open woudl not with the following error... 'unable to open [path]'

I am in dire need of a solution as PBW is going on wihtout me.

You might have to unistall seiv and reinstall it. OS upgrades are horrible. I often tell people NOT to upgrade with an upgrade but to back up important files on zip or disk, and do an F-disk and complete install with an OEM or full Version of the new OS. Upgrades always cause problems.

Your best option right now is to uninstall and reinstall the game. OR you can just install the game into a new directory and upgrade the game to the latest Version and then copy your saved game to the new install and see if it will work for you. Best of luck. (But I think your saved game is toast) ;(

I recently just upgraded to XP (Wiped HD, Complete Install), and everything has worked just fine. The ships even seem to move faster (unlike the snails pace that always occured under 98 and ME).

*super embarrased face* major apology to all involved in my little dillema. In my frenzied haste to get SE4 runnign again i forgot to get the latest Version so that is why when i did a reinstall it didnt' work. I think when i upgraded it corrupted the original and wihtout the new Version i couln't run my old (rather new) savegames.
