Simeultaneous move - multiple combat in same sector?

I flew a frigate through a wormhole only to run into some satellites. I was unable to harm them (I was armed with capital ship missiles) but they were able to harm me slightly. Unfortunately instead of flying past after the first unresolved combat I fought three more times. Why?

If in your empire settings you have it set for your ships to clear their movement orders when entering a system with an enemy presence, then your ship would have stopped moving once it entered the system and found the satellites. Then as it sat there, more combats would occur, since in simultaneous mode, the turn is broken up into days and combat occurs every 5? days if there are enemies in the same sector.

I think that setting is truly evil and it is the first thing I clear when I start a new game.

If this was an unexplored warppoint, what you should have done was give the frigate an order to warp, then an order to moveto the near side of the warppoint (ie. warp back)
If it was explored, you'd have to give orders to keep moving after warping.

And in any case, DONT clear orders when you sight an enemy.

PS:
ISTR somebody said that combat occurs every 7 days...
so, a ship with 10 movement could get in and out before combat can occur, if they start their turn on the warppoint. (1 MP every 3 days)
... That might also work to run a WP blockade.

I think that's just the delay for repeated combats, or it SHOULD be - combat should occur as soon as contact is made.

Combat occurs whenever a ship in this sector is entitled to move. For this, just divide the number of days (30) by the maximum movement of your ship (assume 6 for the ease of calculation this time), so 30 div 6 = 5. Your ship will move every 5 days. If your speed was 10 you would move every 3 days. Hope this helps.

Yes, this means a ship can't "move so fast that no combat occurs as it passes through an enemy sector," which is, of course, as it should be.
