Anyone get TCP/IP play to work?
Well, my friends and I got coppies of SEIV Gold today in the mail and we got together to try it over the Lan. After 1-1/2 hours we gave up as error after error stopped us from even getting a game started.
The most common was that empire files were not valid or corrupt. Once an error occured, we needed to reboot the machines before the game would behave itself. Has anyone gotten LAN play to work and if so is there a secret to make it go? |
Re: Anyone get TCP/IP play to work?
Well, I tested GOLD extensively in a LAN environment and had never a corrupted emp file. That's very strange. Remember to shut down any firewall for best results (even if this has nothing to do with corrupted files...). Use scandisk to verify your hard disk has no errors. Try another game in LAN and see if this is working correctly. Or try to copy some folders with data from one machine to the other and see if these data are received correctly.

Re: Anyone get TCP/IP play to work?
It would be my opinion, that if one were using the same disk, ie burned copies, then perhaps this could be a problem. (kinda like Quake) However, since all of you have your own copies, I haven't a clue. Have you emailed Aaron?

No, there was no firewall involved. I doubt it was the LAN since we could connect to each other, but as soon as you tried to start, the game bombed.
We were trying to do it with the P&N mod, but after a while we stopped trying that as well. I'll email Arron and see what he has to say. [ 08 March 2002: Message edited by: bstripp ]</p> |

Aaron is out of office for a week IIRC. Can you explain the errors in more details? Try setting up a game with someone else and see if the problem is persistent.
