Russian Mountain Troops
Okay, I am working on another Twilight 2000 conversion scenario and I am looking for some input, should I use Spetsnaz to sub in place of the listed Moutain Troops?

Re: Russian Mountain Troops
In short no.
Russia has the 7th Guard Mountain Air Assault Division they are like all Russian Airborne troops "highly" mechanized. But like our 10th Mountain do specialize and train for the terrain they are named for. Also it is suggested they are more akin to be called "Para-Commandos". The quote below indicates they recently within the last couple of years operated in the Ukraine. "In Luhansk, and in the city of Novosvitlivka in the Krasnodon district in the Luhansk region, units of the 7th Guard Mountain Air Assault Division are stationed," the report of Prava Sprava says." The above is from Ref. 2 below." https://www.globalsecurity.org/milit...my-vdv-org.htm http://uawire.org/news/prava-sprava-...yed-to-ukraine https://www.openbriefing.org/docs/No...forces-VDV.pdf Regards, Pat :capt: |
Re: Russian Mountain Troops
Scenario question so moved to appropriate forum
The mountain infantry class makes no difference whatsoever unless your scenario terrain has impassable terrain they can cross for 1 MP less as a major feature. Paras cost more points as they have parachutes - not likely to be of use except jumping out of planes with. Just use normal troops and add a few experience and/or morale points with the clone function of the scenario editor. |
