Panzerjäger I
Panzerjäger I
Please note that Unit 042 in the German OB is spelled incorrectly. There is no such word as "Panzerjager" [sic]. The word stems from the verb jagen = to hunt, pronounced yaa'gen. All nouns derived therefrom use the umlauted 'a', giving Jäger or Jaeger, pronounced yea'ger. |
Re: Panzerjäger I
My understanding is that the game engine cannot use special characters (umlauts, accents, etc). This coupled with limited data size (character limits) for names means that different people (some OOBs have a number of authors) have used different and/or "best/closest" spellings for names.
There are a number of instances where non-English words are transliterated in a less than "perfect" way (especially where special characters are concerned) - Live with it! |
Re: Panzerjäger I
That is correct and if you try to use any special characters in either the OOB text files or more importantly, in any of the scenarios or campaign text files the special characters will blow up your text at best or crash the program at worst.
So most folks just drop the funky characters and no one cares one iota. |
Re: Panzerjäger I
Jager-no umlaut( or less common Jaeger ) are long accepted anglicization of jäger. In this case, Jager was used. Originally it was written JPz I. In 2014 it was changed to Panzerjager. It's now Pz.Jg. I
That said I have no doubt somewhere down the line someone will have issues with that too........ |
Re: Panzerjäger I
I am part of the Forgotten Hope 2 mod and a while back one of our devs went through all our equipment to standardize the naming conventions. Even though we have a lot fewer assets than this game, it was a giant pain in the *** and huge project. So I guess what I'm saying is that I understand if this is not pursued much further :D
