I need a campaign player to test this
This is for people who regularly play generated campaigns
Make sure you have ID tags ON Set up you campaign buying your core units..... when it comes time to buy support units I want you to click on the ALLIES button and then when that screen appears change to CAPTURED and select any nation and buy some units then click on deploy What ID tag do you see on your captured units? |
Re: I need a campaign player to test this
Part 2 of the above test
Has ANYONE ever actually bought support units for a campaign as captured ?? |
Re: I need a campaign player to test this
Hi,
just fired up a quick testgame, Russians with Czechoslovakian support units. The units ID tag seems to be that of 'Red', not Czechoslovakian, and the Weapons Encyclopedia shows 'Russia'. As for you second question: I haven't played any campaigns yet... |
Re: I need a campaign player to test this
Ran a quick generated campaign - UK Vs Iraq 3/2003
Allies bought as support and set to captured are displayed with the Red (OoB #43) ID tag. If the map is viewed whilst on the purchase support troops screen friendly objective / VP markers are set to whichever force you last picked from (in my case showed US VPs instead of UK ones) this was fixed once game started. Can confirm that the "captured" allies will take VPs and convert them to the Main force Nationality. Q2 - Sorry dont think I ever have - tend to use allied forces not captured equipment (which I can confirm works as intended with allies having their own ID tag). |
Re: I need a campaign player to test this
I just wanted to double check with players who were not using an EXE we have modified since the last release
What you both just confirmed was a bug 2 DECADES OLD that I just found today ( seriously..... 2 DECADES OLD ) I ASSUME this means that no one at any time has ever bought support units from another nation as captured FWIW if they are bought as support as ALLIED the correct flag is displayed so the bug is with captured Support ---something obviously nobody uses or if they do they don't run with ID tags on Thank you both for the quick response.... there is no need for anyone else to test this |
Re: I need a campaign player to test this
FWIW in SPWW2 Allies bought as support and set to captured DO show the correct ID tag so we just have to find where the difference is in the two codes and set up MBT the way SPWW2 is set up ( and we will.....but it is far easier said than done......)

Re: I need a campaign player to test this
It never occurred to me to try it. I'll test it this week.

But I have done it for user campaigns. The first time I think it was actually an improvised winSPWW2 campaign - I strung together some of the 1944 stock scenarios and played them with my own core force. Unbalanced, yes, but ok fun IMO. If an enemy tank/vehicle unit was damaged and the crew bailed out I assumed it had been captured and would buy it as captured unit the next round. IIRC the unit flag was sometimes Soviet, even if the opponent was Soviet these Aux units would have the same flag as the enemy. The unit leader would also have a Soviet name. Didn't think too much about it, figured there was some conflict with older scenarios being used sort of the "wrong way"... I still make use captured units, but since I tend to play my own home made user campaigns I typically add them as AUX units in the editor. It's very easy that way if one wants only one single unit of some type..., set the desired unit to AUX and anything else will not show up..., can't remember seeing any unit flag problems when doing it this way. |
