ScenHack and a modified OOB
Good morning, everyone.
I am having a spot of trouble with ScenHack and a modified OOB of mine - OOB 005 (Japan). I get the following error message: "Access violation at address 61757153. Read of address 61757153" Any idea what this could mean? It only occurs in two scenarios where I have used this OOB. In another, there are no issues whatsoever. The major difference being the units used in one and the other. In one scenario, I swapped out US units for Japanese. In the other - an original - the Japanese were default (WW2+ Xalyn Gol). One scenario is Japan versus Russia and the other is Japan versus VC/NVA. In both scenarios I am using mostly infantry with some APCs on the Japanese side. If you need more info to go on, I am happy to provide it. I am debugging as I go along, but can't seem to narrow down the problem on my own. Any help would be appreciated as it has happened in another scenario with another OOB I have edited, which again, normally works fine in plenty of other scenarios. I am assuming therefore that one of the units must be causing the trouble. Best Regards, Recruit Monty |
Re: ScenHack and a modified OOB
First, clarify when you see this message. When ScenHack loads or the game ?
Also....... you posted on the MBT forum so I assume it's related to MBT but confirm that I have one guess at this stage.......... did you perhaps use an inflection in a unit or formation name? Like this......T-34/85à Mobhack will happily use it......... the game not at all. IDK about scenhack |
Re: ScenHack and a modified OOB
Scenhack is non-windows code and so it will explode on finding a foreign non-US ASCII letter as with the game. So my guess as to the culprit would be the same - an accented character, Japanese script etc.

Re: ScenHack and a modified OOB
Dear Don, Dear Andy,
Good evening. My apologies, if I have posted this up in the wrong forum. The message has only been popping up in ScenHack when I try to load those "problem" scenarios. I will take a look at the OOB in question and make a few changes to unit names and see what happens when I try and load the scenarios using the modified OOBs in ScenHack after. I don't recall using any special characters in either of the modified OOBs in question, as I remember reading that anything accented kills the game. I learnt this the hard way when I wrote the descriptions for some units in my German OOB, first time round. I seem to have narrowed it down to the game having a problem with the Guards Infantry and Guards Squad unit classes. I am going to do an experiment in another oob and see if this is where the problem actually lies. Best Regards, Recruit Monty |
Re: ScenHack and a modified OOB
- UPDATE -
I have been able to solve the problem I have encountered by doing the following: I renamed one unit "Imperial Guards" to "Konoe Shidan" (Imperial Guard Division in Hepburn Japanese) and another unit "Kenpeitai" to "KPT Rifle Sec.". "Kempeitai Squad" was not liked. Neither was "KPT Rifle Squad". Perhaps they were too long? In both cases the scenarios now load fine in ScenHack. I also changed their classifications from the original to something else. In the case of the Imperial Guards, now Konoe Shidan, I reclassified them as "Light Guards Squad" from "Guards Infantry". In the case of the KPT, I deleted the old entries in Mobhack and pasted them back in. Changed the names of the formations to reflect the new names as well. That seems to have fixed the problem. I am guessing at this stage that perhaps one of three things could be the root cause: 1) The units did not write properly the first time I created them in MobHack. 2) The unit names are a problem. 3) The unit types are a problem. I will carry out some more experiments to narrow it down and see what happens. Best Regards, Recruit Monty |
