Problem after adding races

I am new to the board and to SEIV Gold. I have what will most likely be an easy question. I have added some additional races to SEIV that I downloaded from various SEIV sites. When I went to start a new game, the program freezes after I hit the Begin Game button. I get an error box that says Ai Settings Errors and lists 10 specific problem areas like Could not find field "Ships don't move through minefields" in record "Settings". I am not running a mod and I did not change any files. I only added files for new races to the empire and race folders. Would just adding additional races cause this problem? Do you have to be running a mod to utilize new races? Thanks for any help.

Re: Problem after adding races

My guess would be that some of the the races you added are "old" SEIV and not the Gold Version. There have to statements in various AI files about drones or ya run into a pack of errors. Make sure any race you add is "golden".

Re: Problem after adding races

The problem is that the races you are using are built for an earlier Version of SE4, which didn't have those settings.

You can either wait for updated Versions (look for "Gold" or "Version 1.60") or modify the AI file yourself. Or don't use that race. Check the Extras folder on the Gold CD, there are some extra races there.

Re: Problem after adding races

You can fix them by copying a simular race style AI from GOLD. Or, wait for the author to update the ai.

I have updated all of my sets, however, there was a problem with the FLEET text. If you download any of my sets, I recommend that you simply delete the _AI_Fleet file from the race folder. This will prevent an error from showing, and the race will use the Default AI Fleet text instead.

Atrocities,

I'm another new user who was planning a new thread, but hopefully you'll see this here. I downloaded your ST race sets and installed them but when I added them in a new game The pictures were there but none of the racial settings were included. I assume the race set includes more than just ship pictures, is that correct? If so, how do I get the game to included the characteristics, design name files, etc?

Thanks

Re: Problem after adding races

Coleman: are there .txt files in the race folder? .emp files? if so, you may have to manually put a couple of them in other folders. The designame.txt goes into a folder of the same same and the .emp files go into the empires folder.

also when starting a game did you use "new race" bar or "existing race" bar? new race lets you design your own while existing race(s) are those that have a .emp file in the empire folder.

hope I didn't confuse you (or say something incorrect, been doing this so long I forget the correct names and such)

Re: Problem after adding races

coleman, you need to move the EMP files from the race directory to the Empire folder. All the race include EMP files for 2k 3k 5k. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hope that helps. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Also, be sure to delete the "Race Name"_AI_FLeet txt file from any race of mine you wish to use. Or if you able to do this, download the new "Race"_AI_Fleet txt file copy it and place it in all the race files that you have gotten from me, and then change the "race" to the name of the race. Example:

Race_AI_Fleet -to- Klingon_AI_Fleet

If you have any other problems, please let me know. Thanks

Thanks a lot Attrocities!

Manually transferred the file and I'm off and running. Playing my first game of SE after a few false starts with the default Terrans and BOY, does your ST race set make the game more fun! It makes the races familiar.

Thanks for the hard work you put in.

Atrocities:

I'll second Coleman's reply. I had Friday off and moved your ST mods to SE4G. Updated the files to get around the initial minor problems and voila! Building my first B'rel and K'tinga class ships to dominate the quadrant.

Only one thing seemed to be missing to add flavor: the system names. I compiled a list of 255 names that are TNG/TOS-consistent taking care to try to only use system and not planet names where referenced. Is there someplace (website) that I can load this to for other players?

PS: Truly a great job with those ship Bitmaps!
