Before I buy Gold... ...
 

I need to know that I'm not buying into a game that's dying. I mean I knwo that Gold may temporatrily boost interest, but will it Last?

I remember when I first bought SEIV the community seemed to be much stronger than today. Has gold help grow it too it's old level? Or just boosted it a bit??

Well, I just got gold so you've got at least one opponent! (Can one join existing SE IV games with Gold?)

I would buy it. The new features are well worth it IMHO. As for the community, well, it is the same as it has always been. Feast or famon. Right now there are a lot of new posters posting, and they have taken over and refreshed the forum. The rest of us, those that have been here posting for a while (Generals) we're still here and posting, though on reduced schedule.

Its not that the game is "dying" it is more that it has evolved and many of use are focused on newer, more interesting, facits of the game. Also, PBW is where many people are at now. Ya, I don't think there is any founded concern about SE dying away! Shrapnel had a major job just to mail out all the pre-orders. PBW seemed to be going very strong even before the Gold release. There are still quite a few people playing SE _III_ (I have a 5-player PBEM SE3 game still running!) even! Gold has added a lot of cool new things that can be done with modding, and the upgrade in the works adds even more. No end to SE IV in sight!

Gold is a big improvement - I'd really recommend it to new and old players alike!
